Sometimes the goals we set aren’t necessarily what put us on the path we follow. Veteran William Schellenbach, a 2003 graduate of Badin High School, knows this well. In 2007, the former Marine enrolled at
Miami University as a
business administration major. But all that changed after attending a geology class, when Schellenbach decided that the only business he was interested in was working outside.
Since then, he has participated in two different research projects during his time at Miami, as well as presented papers at the Geological Society of America’s annual meetings. Today, with graduation looming, Schellenbach is planning to attend New Mexico State University for post-graduate work and possibly a doctorate.
To help him accomplish these feats, Schellenbach received three scholarships from the Michael J. Colligan Fund of the Hamilton Community Foundation. This fund was started by Michael J. Colligan, a retired funeral director who passed away in 1994. While the fund serves many people, it is particularly helpful to Butler County veterans who wish to return to school. It can be used for school related expenses and will not replace
veterans tuition assistance benefits provided by the Federal Government. For those who receive it, it can make all the difference in pursuing a goal... and reaching it.
